Albany Memorial Library - Remembering Our Men
Author, Lesley Dixon, spent seven years researching and compiling information on the 119 men who left from the Albany (North Auckland) District to serve overseas in WW1 and WW2. Each soldier as an entry, and most also have a photograph. This book is also about the Albany Memorial library and the amazing history of this special building built in 1922. It's always been run by community volunteers and the ANZAC services were held outside it until 1984, when the expressway opened up and it was too hard to hear because of all the traffic. It has very unique architecture and is the only Memorial library from WW1 still on its original site.
